He was diagnosed with breast cancer. Last October, he was among the one percent of men diagnosed with male breast cancer.
They caught it really early. He was stage one. Within days after seeing Dr. Joseph Medical Center, he was in surgery having his tumor removed. They're the same cell type. The county should continue its efforts in recycling and other activities to improve our environment. It is imperative that we fulfill the need to attract quality business to Baltimore County in order to create sustainable and well-paying jobs for our area.
I believe that a Council Person should serve as a liaison between the county government, local businesses and community associations. The liaison will play an active role in strengthening communications, facilitating action from the Council on community ideas and concerns.
It is estimated that there are currently 12, individuals in Baltimore County between the ages of 16 and 24 who neither attend school nor are employed. I will continue my work with community colleges and local businesses to engage young people in educational, intern and work opportunities. These efforts will pay off for our youth and communities.
I have proven that when I see a need in the community, I will take action to see that the need is met. I pledge to continue to do this on behalf of Baltimore County District 2 residents, responding to them and assuring that their voices will be heard. I will advocate for our community with the hope of bringing the highest quality of life possible.
A successful business owner and involved community volunteer, I am a lifelong resident of Baltimore County. I graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Business Administration. Does the county government exercise adequate oversight over the school system? Yaffe : Apparently not. I believe the auditors office, a part of the legislative part of government, is underutilized and should play a more prominent role in reviewing the school system and other county agencies.
What role can the county play in assisting in the preservation or revitalization of aging communities? Yaffe : A more significant role through code enforcement and the Department of Economic Development, Baltimore County must invest in these aging communities to improve the quality of life for all.
We need to set up more formal communications with our community associations to gather the meaningful input that they can provide. How would you characterize the relationship between the Baltimore County police and the communities they serve?
Are any reforms necessary? Yaffe : Baltimore County Police have a much better relationship with the communities than most jurisdictions, however there is always room for improvement. In this area we need to reach out to our community associations, our houses of worship and the business community. I am a firm believer that a higher degree of community policy is needed. Baltimore County was a pioneer in rural land preservation. Do its zoning policies and the Urban-Rural Demarcation Line continue to serve the county's needs?
A well-established, thought out master plan should be revisited for Baltimore County. Is Baltimore County's support for cultural institutions in Baltimore City too little, too much or just right?
