Nestled on the campus of Esteban E. Torres High School, a performing arts magnet school in East L. Performing Arts Magnet and Beyond the Bell. The L. Phil announced Thursday that the three-year project will consist of regional orchestra camps in and a National Take a Stand festival in that will bring together students for a seven-day youth orchestra camp. The festival will culminate with a performance led by conductor Gustavo Dudamel, music director of the L. The three-year project is expected to kick off this year with a weeklong pilot program where leaders will devise a program that will serve as a model for the camps.
Phil spokeswoman said that the pilot program and festival would take place in L. In , Leopold Stokowski had founded the Hollywood Bowl Symphony for the summer concerts at the Hollywood Bowl, a striking art deco outdoor concert shell in a lovely natural amphitheater. The Los Angeles Philharmonic soon replaced it as the regular orchestra for this series, becoming a beloved part of the city's public cultural life. Philharmonic and Dudamel established the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles, which offers free music education and instruments to students in the Los Angeles area.
